Our team are specialists in strategic land development and planning across the UK. We work with local authorities and communities to progress and promote land through the planning system and deliver the best outcome.

Our Heritage

Mactaggart & Mickel is an award-winning group of companies operating in the UK property sector. Established as a luxury housebuilding company in Scotland in 1925, the company has  diversified over the years and the Group now focuses on Strategic Land Development, Private Lettings and Investments.

    Seasoned Land Professional Joins Mac Mic Group’s South West Team

    Mac Mic Group have strengthened its Strategic Land team with a new appointment to support the company’s growth in the South West of England.


    The Group’s latest recruit Richard Kelso joins as Senior Strategic Land Manager based out of the company’s Bristol office, working alongside Strategic Land Manager Michael Gooch.

    Mac Mic Group has announced the launch of the new Mac Mic Foundation and a pledge to donate a minimum 2% of company net annual profit to helping communities thrive. 

    The Mac Mic Foundation will play a vital role in the company's Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which is centred on enhancing local communities by supporting causes that deliver positive and lasting change.

    Mac Mic Group has strengthened its Strategic Land Division with a new appointment to support the company’s growth in south east England.

    Kari Burton has joined Mac Mic Group as Senior Planning Manager and is based in the company’s London office at Paddington Basin.

    Mac Mic Group’s Strategic Land team eyes growth with Bristol office

    Mac Mic Group’s South West Strategic Land team has moved to offices at Aztec West, Bristol as the land and property group looks to further grow its portfolio in the region.

    Mac Mic Group has relocated to The Aztec Centre from premises in Cheltenham to draw on Bristol’s status as a hub for the region’s property industry, and benefit from Aztec West’s strategic location, with its excellent transport links.

    The move comes as the Group’s South West Strategic Land team looks to invest significantly in its portfolio of strategic land, which already includes 23 sites.

    The investment is part of a wider investment plan that will include growing the Group’s total English strategic land revenue by £33m over the next five years.

    Milestone sale of the last phase at Shavington Triangle development

    Our Strategic Land team completed the sale of the last phase of the Shavington Triangle development, near Crewe, this month to Anwyl Homes.

    The sale marks a milestone in the team's history as the first site for which planning consent was secured. Outline planning for 400 houses was granted from Cheshire East Council in 2015.

    Development of the initial phase of 200 houses sold to Persimmon commenced in 2017, with detailed consent recently granted to Anwyl Homes taking the final number to 450 houses.

    Strategic land receives investment following sale of Group housebuilding business

    Following the sale of its housebuilding business to Springfield Properties in a £46m deal, Mactaggart & Mickel Group embarks on a major investment programme to grow its strategic land business.

    The strategic land team has enjoyed considerable success having completed seven deals in the last year. These included the acquisition of a 66-acre site in south-east London, and deals to promote sites in the Chiltern Hills, in Wiltshire and in Worcestershire.

    The team has projects covering over 3,300 acres in England and over 2,800 in Scotland. The new investment plan will significantly grow the English strategic land revenue over the next five years.

    Tom Harris joins strategic land team

    Tom joined the Cheltenham based South West team in November 2021, following a previous role as Head of Land & Partnerships at the Jehu Group.

    He is responsible for identifying new strategic land opportunities in the South West and steering them through the planning process.

    Born and raised in Wales, Tom offers expert knowledge of the development market in the West and South West. He likes to take a friendly, collaborative and ambitious approach to tackling challenges and is dedicated to delivering much-needed homes across the region.

    A chartered planning and development surveyor, Tom also brings experience of the affordable housing sector which he gained after a degree in Land Management from the University of Reading.

    He is an avid football fan and player, and is proud to have scored twice at Cardiff City Stadium, the home of Welsh football. Tom is also a keen golfer in his spare time.
