Future of Chard Takes Shape with Major Planning Approval

Mac Mic Group is delighted to announce that planning permission has been granted for a significant development at Mount Hindrance in Chard.

The 58-acre site will deliver a much-needed boost to the local community, providing 295 new homes and a new home for Chard Town FC, who will relocate from their current ground at Zembard Lane.

Somerset Council’s southern area planning committee unanimously approved the outline planning application, subject to the completion of a Section 106 agreement. This agreement will secure 35% affordable housing, local highway improvements, and financial contributions towards new local infrastructure.

The development has faced challenges due to the nutrient neutrality issue affecting the Somerset Levels and Moors Special Protection Area. However, thanks to the dedication and hard work of the team, the project has overcome these obstacles and secured planning permission.

Michael Gooch, Strategic Land Manager for Mac Mic Group’s South West office said: “We are thrilled to have received planning permission for this exciting development. This is a significant milestone for the project and a positive step forward for the local community. Mac Mic Group has been working closely with Chard Town FC for a number of years in order to get to this moment. This positive outcome is a testament to our collaborative efforts and will lead to many benefits for members of the club, as well as the local community. We are delighted to have helped provide a new home for the Robins and wish them continued success.”

"We look forward to working with Somerset Council and other stakeholders to deliver a high-quality development that meets the needs of the area leaving a legacy we can all be proud of.”

Mac Mic Group South West would like to express its gratitude to the consultant team, including D2 Planning, Clifton Emery design, SLR Consulting, Connect, THE RICHARDS PARTNERSHIP LLP, RMA Environmental Limited, Ht Ecology Limited, and EHP Consultants Ltd.

Savills, Exeter, will handle the disposal of the site on behalf of Mac Mic Group and the landowners.
