Mac Mic hosts roundtable on new BSc (Hons) Town and Urban Planning program created by UWS

Thank you to those that attended our roundtable event in Glasgow this week!

We were thrilled to welcome guests from across the development sector to discuss an exciting new BSc (Hons) Town and Urban Planning program currently under development by University of the West of Scotland (UWS).

The planned timing for launching this new course couldn't be better! RTPI Scotland research shows the number of public sector planners in Scotland is at a five-year low.

The UWS program addresses the critical need, fostering the next generation of planning professionals and will provides an apprenticeship route to qualification so that students can “learn while they earn”. The placements will also be fully funded.

The team from UWS presented the program details and curriculum, while Mac Mic Group and industry colleagues offered valuable insights and feedback around the skill set required for the modern placemaker. The course has been designed to appeal to a diverse student cohort and will draw from those already working in industry, planning authorities, construction, real estate, retail, utilities, and transport.

The program, which is on track to launch in September 2024 (subject to validation) with advanced entry options, is being developed collaboratively with the Royal Town Planning Institute Scotland (RTPI) to ensure graduates are on a path to becoming a Chartered Planner (MRTPI).

The new BSc (Hons) Town and Urban Planning program has already received support from a number of Local Authorities.
